Mary-Clare Blackburn BA Hons , MBSRA(UK), BCMA

After spending most of her life suffering from back pain, neck pain and sciatica due to car accidents and hyper mobility she discovered Body Stress Release when she became almost immobile from the locked-in stress in her back and neck. After two months of weekly sessions of Body Stress Release she felt compelled to travel to South Africa and train as a practitioner as her body had responded so well and it had changed her life.

Mary-Clare qualified as a BSR practitioner in 2015 and set up a practice whilst living in South Africa. She is now practising in London where her clients are of all ages and with a wide range of symptoms. Mary-Clare is passionate about BSR as she herself has benefited from it and and she believes that Body Stress Release is for everyone- from infants to the elderly. It is also safe during pregnancy. Her clients have reported relief from Back pain, sciatica, headaches, migraines, neuralgia, indigestion and even snoring. ‘I approach the body holistically to locate and release stress. Even if tension appears to be concentrated in the shoulders and neck area, I focus on the body as a whole from head to toe’. Mary-Clare is passionate about enabling the body to self-heal and by using a bio-feedback monitor she is able to facilitate in relieving the built-up stress in the body that interferes with this natural healing.

" I went to see Mary-Clare about an injury I sustained in my shoulder. I continued bricklaying for 3 years without letting my injury heal. This resulted in a loss of feeling and co-ordination down the right side of my body.
After my first Body Stress Release session I felt a dramatic change, I felt more relaxed and could feel my body starting to heal its self. I was so relieved, having researched the possible routes to heal my shoulder and found surgery very daunting. I saw Mary-Clare on a weekly basis as my body kept going back into ‘protection mode’ and each time I went back we released a layer of protection eventually exposing the injury for self healing. Maintaining good posture, walking and gentle yoga helped but it was the 48 hours after my Body Stress Release session when I really noticed my body healing incredibly efficiently. I can honestly say that without Body Stress Release I would have not been able to carry on with my job. I would have most likely needed surgery and a possible shoulder transplant, I can now do all the things I was doing before more easily with out causing myself harm.
Enlightened by Body Stress Release, I look after myself a lot better, I can think more clearly and am more aware of how every day life affects my health. I can not recommend it enough, Mary-Clare is a warm and friendly practitioner with a very empathetic approach. I was so impressed by the effect Mary-Clare and Body Stress Release had on my life, that I am looking into becoming a practitioner in the future."

What is Body Stress Release?

Body Stress Release offers a gentle and effective way to help your body to release stored tension from the muscles.  It is a complementary health technique that was researched and developed in South Africa and is now practised worldwide.

What is Body Stress?

Body Stress is a powerful factor in all our lives and can undermine our health and well-being in many ways.  Every day we are exposed to different types of stress;

  • Physical – such as an injury, strain or bad posture.
  • Chemical -  such as air pollutant, additives and colourants in food, harmful chemicals in everyday products.
  • Mental or emotional stress.

Sometimes we find ourselves overloaded by stress. In an effort to cope with this overload, the body stores the stress in the muscles. This is what we call ‘body stress’. Body stress can lead to pain, stiffness, postural distortion, numbness, and cramps. Tension in the muscles can put pressure on your nerves which disturbs your body’s communication system. This reduces the efficiency of your body’s natural self-healing ability.

What to expect during a session of BSR.

Whilst fully clothed and lying down, the BSR practitioner will do a series of pressure tests, and the muscular responses indicate the exact sites of stored stress.

The BSR practitioner then applies a light but definite pressure in the precise directions indicated.

This allows the body to restore muscle tone and return to its in-built ability to heal and maintain itself.
